Wasn’t fixed. Wasn’t rigged. I trained. And I won. Period.

daigo got cocky and got beat. your own footage shows it. he was parrying trying to "make a moment" off somebody he didn't know could take advantage of it, and he paid for it. he got beat. can't even say he was nervous because this is what he does. game… competitively. regardless of why, he lost.

That Daigo clip was very illuminating. Nice pull.

19:33 I slowed it down just to make sure but Daigo didn't just up for the DP, he did in fact do crouching fierce before the DP, it just didn't do enough damage to kill. I think if he EX'd the move it would've killed though, to which I believe Daigo maybe just misread the situation instead of spending it to cash out the round.

I'm still massively surprised this happened in the first place but had never noticed what small details happened in the matches…. great vid btw

  6. より:

That's the sentiment he was going for, presumably. "Anyone can play, anyone can win."

  7. より:

Fighting games aren't meant to be an Esports

  8. より:

Great video, really enjoyed it. I just subscribed.

Nice vid, excellent editing, although I recommend talking a bit faster… I had to speed the video up to 2x lol overall though pretty neat video my man

Lupe has played SF since he was young, he even mentions it in a few song

My guy was just farming him for clips essentially. Sadly, it came back to bite him in the butt.

It always makes me laugh how concerned the FGC were at the time when Daigo lost to Lupe Fiasco, as if Daigo's legacy would've been destroyed. He was selected to this match because he is the embodiment of a FG player, is an icon to the Fighting Genre as most as some fighting game characters. The Daigo Parry video is so iconic outside FG and even videogames that people even never touched a videogame in their lives understand the context and the outcome without explaining anything. This fight for him as a competitor meant nothing compared to what he's done, more so he wanted to give Fiasco a good match and make everybody around them hyping up for Fighting Games and make the decision to jump in for people that never tried FGs. If Daigo wanted he woul've destroyed Fiasco in time record even taken in consideration the changes made in vanilla SFV, i really doubt the games mechanics had something to do with most of the outcome.

At first when people talked about this incident i was thinking about Brawl which had decisions more against players in general, and where some mid-high level matches were won by beginners but the case is extremely less severe than Brawl.

So glad this was in my recommended, banger video and I just learned a ton.

Lupe v. Daigo match seemed thrown as hell. The difference from daigos play between rounds as he was "going too hard" is super obvious. SFV was supposed to ticketed as the game where even complete scrubs had a chance to have an MLG comeback moment because of the mechanics built in

14:56 the hadouken was already coming out

Nevermind I see it came out after the dp

  16. より:

    Your videos are dope man

  17. より:

Sorry Minor correction, the dp invicibility thing is a season 2 thing, in season 1 dps were fully invincible…..well some versions, ryu medium was fully inv if memory doesnt fail me, not hard tough
Also SF3 didnt have fully invincible meterless dps, so not every previous stailment had it

  18. より:

God is there really any song more hype than Strange Sunset?

  19. より:

Daigo is the ultimate Chad, gave the people a show and put his ego away. Respect

  20. より:

    cool cool cool

  21. より:

veo regularmente el canal de FGC Translated y solo una vez Daigo ha hablado de este momento. Ahora entiendo el contexto y porque lo hizo. Fue obviamente un momento para el espectaculo

Just want to mention around the part where you are mentioning DPs. In season 1 SFV medium DPs were fully invincible like EX DPs were and then they changed it like how you mentioned in season 2. The issue was that Daigo was doing H DP as opposed to M.

  23. より:

This was an excellent deep dive of a mostly forgotten moment that changed the course of SFV and the "E-Sports" conversation in the FGC as a whole. Keep it up dude, this was awesome!

Awesome vid, best recap of Woshige and Daigo's biggest L's. I grew up with fighters but was ignorant to the competitive scene and FGC until around this point in history; I was super confused and turned off by the launch but haven't put the game down since season 3. Daigo definitely wanted it to be like a pro wrestling match or something when he should've just put Lupe in a blender

  26. より:

great video! can't wait to see your channel grow ^-^

  27. より:

I’ve been a fan of Lupe for a while now and never knew he did this. Great video.

  28. より:

    I got mixed.
Based on the title, I thought this video was going to be about the Daigo vs Lupe Fiasco SFV exhibition.
    edit: I got mixed twice.

  29. より:

still find it ridiculous that you aren't more popular, always love your content

Too bad corporate sponsoring killed the fgc. Look at what happened to Infiltration lately. Capitalism is a disease.

Man this was such a funny, weird and stressful time looking back at it. SFV was going to be my first fighting game at the time. I'd enjoyed watching fighting games, but never owned a 360 or PS3. Everyone was expecting SFV to be this amazing game that would finally bridge the gap between grassroots and esports. And to make things short, it wasn't that lol. But finally owning a PS4 gave me the chance to explore the entire fighting game genre thoroughly after realizing the game wasn't what I or many others wanted it to be. In that sense I appreciate SFV.
To talk about this set though, it was so funny to watch. A friend and I were losing it when we realized Daigo was throwing on purpose. Also when Lupe Fiasco was on the Joe Budden Podcast years after the match, they somehow got to the topic of the set and asked him if it was rigged or not. Lupe denied it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was just putting on airs to avoid any possible clowning.
